Website 411 Forum: I'm glad you're here!Before we visit this BONUS Feature, let's go over the ground rules. This forum is a way to interact and get your questions answered. I just have a few simple housekeeping items for the use of this board.
First of all, the Golden Rule applies. I'd appreciate (as would all of the members) if your comments were respectful and courteous. Yes, there will be different opinions expressed within each category of this forum. But this is not the place to "flame" your fellow board member with salty language and "passionately opinionated" remarks. I think you know what I mean. I shouldn't need to say it, so please forgive me, but presumably we are all business professionals on this board, here for the common good of getting smarter on some fast-moving topics. Our discussions should be meaningful, and not something akin to what you'd see in a teenage chat room someplace else.
Next, the opinions expressed herein between members are not necessarily my opinions. I may like a particular software package or hosting company, and you might think that it leaves a lot to be desired. That's fair. We may differ on strategies and approaches in terms of achieving a goal. That's fair too. The old expression, "there's more than one way to skin a cat" applies.
I'm going to give you the best advice I can on any of the topics. There will be all kinds of experience represented in this forum. I do not plan on moderating (censoring) peoples' responses. Some of the members are end-consumers and business owners looking to purchase Websites. Other members are Website professionals with much experience to add to the discussions. Please read and heed: The purpose of this forum is for sharing of information, NOT for advertising. The absolute fastest way to get banned from the board (or at best, individually moderated) will be for any member to solicit their own products and services in attempts to target other members. I DO allow Website providers to provide links to informational pages or articles that may be on their sites. Here is the fine line that must not be crossed:
Okay: "There is useful information about Topic XYZ that you can find by visiting www.YourCompanyWebsite.com/SpecificRelevantPage.html."
NOT Okay: "If you are looking to get started with your Website, visit www.YourCompanyWebsite.com and we'll take care of you!"
Just be sure that the page you link to is relevant to the topic and in response to a post asking for such information. I will verify all links.
Signature blocks are perfectly fine with your name, position, and company name. Signature blocks with slogans, tag lines, or other advertising are not fine. Business Owners:
Okay: "I have a XYZ business and I'm need to adjust the layout on my Website, www.YourCompanyWebsite.com, so that it does such and such. Can anyone tell me how to do so, or what is involved?"
NOT Okay: "I have an XYZ business, so if anyone here is shopping for such and such, visit my website at www.YourCompanyWebsite.com."
Again, let's keep the forum clean, "adware" free, and productive for all!
